Msy. Študijnú cestu do Uhorska podnikol jeden z najväčších prírodovedcov 16. storočia. Holanďan Karol Clusius /vlastným menom Charles de 1 Écluse/ (1526-1609). Svoje botanické výskumy robil aj v okolí Bratislavy a Trnavy. Z lokalít Bratislavy, Devína, Stupavy, Sv. Jura a Trnavy opísal 29 nových dovtedy neznámych rastlín. Počas svojich ciest po území Slovenska sa zoznámil aj s lekárom Jurajom Purkirchcrom (15301578), ktorý pri svojom dome v Bratislave mal botanickú záhradu. Z Neapola priniesol Purkircher fazuľu Phaseolus vulgaris, ktorú daroval Clusiovi. Ten ju vo svojom diele nazval po svojom hostiteľovi Phaseolus Purkircherianus, Purkircherova fazuľa.
